The E4 European Path
The European long-distance trail passes directly through Livadi. From the village square you can step onto it and walk in either direction — north into the Pieria range, south toward Thessaly.
Walk in the footsteps of the gods on Europe's most mythical mountain
SIX TRAILS · STARTING POINT: LANARI
Most of the walks people remember don't end on a summit. They open on a stretch of meadow, a forgotten chapel, or a beech forest that runs longer than you expect. These are the six trails that start within reach of the guesthouse.
The European long-distance trail passes directly through Livadi. From the village square you can step onto it and walk in either direction — north into the Pieria range, south toward Thessaly.
A steady climb to the high chapel — the panoramic point that looks back over the village and across to the peaks of Olympus.
Down through the forest to the Monastery of Holy Trinity, where the Chapel of Saint Charalambos was founded in 1040 AD under Constantine IX Monomachos.
The full ridge to Mikro Flambouro, the true peak of Titaros at 1,839m. Steady climb, big views — Olympus to the east, the Pieria range to the north.
A 1.3km walk up to our own farm at 1,400m — the stone refuge with coffee, bikes, archery, and the apiary. The shortest way to see what's above the village.
See the Farm →A long walk through the NE-facing beech forest — the older trees of Titaros, where the canopy closes in and the light gets quieter.
Olympus is Greece's highest mountain (2,917m at Mytikas) and a UNESCO Biosphere — close enough to Livadi for full-day excursions. The three classic routes are below; longer Mytikas attempts are two-day affairs with an overnight at Refuge A.
The E4 trail is one of Europe's great long-distance hiking routes, stretching from the Pyrenees to Greece. Its passage through Mount Olympus is widely considered one of the most beautiful and dramatic sections of the entire path.
From Livadi, hikers can join the E4 and follow it through ancient beech and black pine forests, past rushing streams, and up to the high-altitude plateaus that sit beneath the summit ridge. The trail is well-marked with distinctive red-and-white blazes, but having a local guide transforms the experience -- you will learn about the medicinal plants along the way, spot rare birds of prey, and discover viewpoints that only locals know.
A stunning 3-4 hour walk through the mythical Enipeas gorge, following the river past waterfalls and ancient plane trees. Elevation gain is gentle, making this suitable for families and those seeking a relaxed nature experience.
The classic Olympus hike. Ascend from Prionia (1,100m) through dense forest to the legendary Refuge A at 2,100m. Enjoy hot meals at the refuge and spectacular sunset views before descending or continuing to the summit the next day.
Reach the Throne of Zeus -- the highest point in Greece. This demanding two-day expedition includes an overnight at Refuge A and an early morning scramble to the summit. The final section involves exposed rock scrambling and requires a head for heights.
While many trails on Olympus are well-marked and can be hiked independently, we strongly recommend our guided experiences for the fullest and safest adventure. Our certified mountain guides are locals who have spent their lives on these slopes -- they know every shortcut, every hidden spring, and every story the mountain holds.
"Our guide Nikos made the hike to Refuge A unforgettable. He pointed out rare orchids, told us ancient myths at every turn, and prepared the most incredible mountain picnic. Returning to Lanari's fireplace after a day on the trail was pure bliss."
